Who we are
Mary’s Meals is a global movement that sets up school feeding projects in some of the world’s poorest communities, where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education.
Our idea is a simple one that works. We provide one daily meal in a place of learning in order to attract chronically poor children into the classroom, where they receive an education that can, in the future, be their ladder out of poverty.
Our vision is that every child receives one daily meal in their place of education and that all those who have more than they need, share with those who lack even the most basic things.
Our mission is to enable people to offer their money, goods, skills, time, or prayer, and through this involvement, provide the most effective help to those suffering the effects of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest communities.
What we do
Mary’s Meals feeds 1,257,278 children every day at school in 15 different countries, across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The average cost of feeding a child for a whole school year is just AU $25.00.
Mary’s Meals has served more than one billion meals to impoverished children around the world. The billionth meal was served in Noida, India, in 2017. Where Mary’s Meals is active, there is a rise in rates of enrolment, attendance and academic performance.
We have a commitment to keeping our running costs low, with at least 93% of donations being spent on our charitable activities.
We are determined to keep our promise of a nutritious daily meal in school to those children already enrolled in our school feeding programme and – as funds allow – reach out to the next hungry child waiting for Mary’s Meals.
